FOREIGN BODIES in the stomach are a frequent occurrence. Generally they result in gastritis, secondary to the presence of the foreign body. This depends on the size and weight of the objects. The possibilities of the malformations of the stomach owing to foreign bodies are limitless. The shape of the deformity is governed by the size, shape, and number of objects involved. These foreign bodies found in the stomach may remain for a considerable time and not produce symptoms.
We treated a patient at the Brooklyn State Hospital in whom 258 articles of varying size and shape were found in a diverticulum of the stomach. The foreign bodies were discovered during the course of a physical examination.
