ABSTRACT

The preceding editorials on medical education were prepared by staff members of the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals. This is a Council of the House of Delegates, staffed by members of the Division of Scientific Activities of the American Medical Association. Dr. John B. Youmans, formerly Dean of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, the new Director of this division, reported for duty in Chicago only a few weeks ago. Although the editorials and the composition of the education issue were prepared some time before Dr. Youmans assumed responsibilities in the division, they have his blessing and concurrence, just as they have the approbation and the nod of assent of the editorial staff of the J. A. M. A.

In addition to receiving the editorial opinions from qualified staff members, it seemed appropriate to solicit judgments from persons vitally concerned with medical education whose responsibilities lay outside the domain
