Pituitary Gland Bank Planned.—
Established of what is reported to be the first pituitary bank was announced July 20 at the University of California Medical Center, San Francisco. The chief purpose of the bank is to help assure an increasing supply of human pituitary glands for the treatment of children stunted by a deficiency of growth hormone. The cooperation of physicians and the public is being sought in 10 Western States: California, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. Pituitary bank donations will be arranged in the same manner as donations to eye banks and artery banks. Donors will sign an authorization in advance for removal of their pituitaries at death and will be advised to inform their relatives and physicians of this intention.
