Previous institutes have been concerned with the teaching of basic sciences, the appraisal of applicants, and the ecology of the student. As in previous institutes, an appropriate pre-institute questionnaire was developed and the returns exhaustively analyzed for consideration by the invited participants during the three days of small group discussions, which ended with a final day's plenary session. The questionnaires for the Institute on Clinical Teaching were sent to deans, department heads of medical schools, clinical faculty personnel, institute participants, and hospital administrators. Most of the tables in this book are based on the analyses of this survey. Brief commentary on the samples, analytic techniques, and interpretation of the tables is also given in the appendix, along with some indication of future research planned on the basis of this information.
