This book is a translation of Morphologie und Physiologie des Nervensystems, first published in 1957 by Georg Thieme Verlag of Stuttgart, Germany. The material has been updated and slightly rearranged. The text is organized so that the methods used to study each level of the nervous system, from peripheral receptors to highest level systems, are discussed in separate chapters with additional chapters on methodology, biochemistry, and evolution rounding out the book. The anatomical and physiological techniques used to assess function and structure of the nervous system are discussed in some detail yet in a clear and concise fashion.
The material is effectively presented up through approximately 1958. Later developments are not as thoroughly covered, except in a few areas. The chapter on biochemistry, especially, seems out-dated with few references to any of the advances since 1958.
