NEW REGISTRY ON BLOOD DYSCRASIAS

ABSTRACT

A report in this issue of The Journal (page 1925) outlines the purpose of a registry sponsored by the Subcommittee on Blood Dyscrasias of the Committee on Research of the Council on Drugs. The Registry on Blood Dyscrasias has been set up for the express purpose of alerting the medical profession to the possible toxic effect on blood and bone marrow of drugs or chemical agents. It is not intended to provide statistical information on the incidence of such conditions but to assist physicians in recognizing such possibilities. There may be doubt in some cases as to whether there is a causal relationship between the condition and the use of the substance. The accumulation of a larger number of cases will make it possible to determine with greater certainty whether a causal relationship exists.
