ABSTRACT

This monograph on the upper extremity is part of a series of comprehensive works designed to present the anatomic basis of medical practice to the physician. In 1935 the first edition on the upper extremity appeared, followed in 1939 by a volume on the leg. The first postwar production by the anatomist von Lanz and the surgeon Wachsmuth was the volume on the neck, published in 1955. The present work is a thoroughly revised edition of the initial publication in the series. Monographs on the practical anatomy of the head, thorax, back, abdomen, and pelvis will complete the series. The volume on the arm has been reissued prior to the completion of the other proposed volumes, partly because of the intense interest in the reconstructive surgery of the hand.
