LETTER TO SUBCOMMITTEE ON IMMIGRATION AND NATURALIZATION  May 26,1959Hon. James O. Eastland, Chairman Subcommittee on Immigration and Naturalization Senate Office Building Washington 25, D. C.Dear Mr. Chairman:It is the understanding of the American Medical Association that your Subcommittee is currently considering a number of amendments to the Immigration and Naturalization Law. The purpose of this letter is to submit, for the consideration of the Subcommittee, the position of the Association on one phase of this law.We understand that the Subcommittee is concerned with the possibility of extending or making permanent certain provisions of Public Law 85-316. We are particularly concerned with those provisions of the law which permit orphans and others afflicted with tuberculosis to be admitted to permanent residence in the United States and with the provisions that authorize the proxy adoption of orphans.
