Poliomyelitis: Papers and Discussions Presented at the Fourth International Poliomyelitis Conference

The Fourth International Poliomyelitis Conference was held in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1957. As was the case after the preceding conferences the demand for a permanent record of the papers and discussions necessitated the publication of this book. It is dedicated to Franklin D. Roosevelt and Prof. Edmond Grasset, both dead. It is to be hoped that the subject itself will enter the realm of past history soon. At this conference interest was centered on vaccination against poliomyelitis, enteric viruses that cause poliomyelitis-like diseases, cultures of mammalian cells, new diagnostic techniques, group and home care of patients with poliomyelitis, and the treatment of the severely stricken. The book is well illustrated with photographs and diagrams. Many of the papers have summaries and lists of pertinent references, and a general summation is presented at the end. The book is well printed and contains an index.
