ABSTRACT

The growing interest in fitness and its evaluation makes this a timely volume. The author has geared the book to the level of prospective teachers of physical education. At the same time, he has included sufficient statistical method to permit students to become capable of scientific testing and application of results. After a discussion of approaches and methods of measurement, there is good coverage of strength tests, motor fitness and motor ability tests, sports skill tests, and body mechanics evaluation. Cardiovascular testing and nutritional appraisal are considered in terms of the physical educator's responsibilities in these areas. Evaluation of social efficiency and testing of knowledge in health and physical education are less extensively treated. There is a summary relating to the organization and administration of the testing program.

This volume should gain wide acceptance for use at the undergraduate level. Its understandable language and nontechnical approach will be appreciated by
