This book reflects the author's attempt to discuss the viruses causing disease in man, animals, and plants in one volume. The book is divided into chapters presenting the history of virology; the modes of spread and arthropod relations of viruses; a brief description of some representative virus diseases, and the isolation, physical and chemical properties, electron microscopy, serology, and control of viral infections.
This small volume is fascinating reading. The author certainly has the faculty of condensing an enormous richness of material into a few pages and presenting it in such a way that medical, veterinary, and plant virologists can equally profit from its reading. The plates contain excellent black-and-white illustrations, mostly microphotographs by Markham and Smith. The last pages of the book consist of a well-selected bibliography.
