ABSTRACT

ARMY 

USE OF WACS IN HOSPITALS  While Wacs are already being used in a variety of assignments in Army hospitals, a special effort is to be made to measure the maximum extent to which they can serve in hospital positions traditionally filled by men. The experiment, scheduled to start June 1, will run for one and a half to two years, and they will work both at Murphy General Hospital and at the Lovell Section at nearby Fort Devens.This experiment will be a guide to determine to what extent enlisted women could be used in hospitals in the event of a national emergency and a consequent man power shortage. They will operate the hospital pharmacy, and will work as photographers, x-ray technicians, mess attendants and stewards, supply clerks and physical reconditioning instructors.
