ABSTRACT

This book comprises brief biographic sketches of internationally known surgeons arranged in alphabetic order. While the author admits some important men may have been unintentionally omitted, he goes as far back into antiquity as 1300 B.C. to Aesculapius and to Hippocrates (465-380 B.C.). The biographies are confined to basic material. The book has no illustrations and no index. As the author considers this volume the second volume of his History of Surgery series, he does not repeat the bibliography or the illustrations in the first volume. The book is of interest as a reference work to the accomplishments of great surgeons of the past.
