ABSTRACT

ARMY 

Colonel Black to Be Administrator of Coal Miners' Hospital.—  Col. Robert Lee Black, retiring chief of the Medical Service Corps of the Army, has been appointed administrator of the Memorial Medical Center in process of construction at Williamson, W. Va., one of three key central hospitals in the chain of 10 general hospitals being built in the coal fields of southeastern Kentucky, southern West Virginia, and southwestern Virginia to meet the needs of coal miners and their families who are beneficiaries of the United Mine Workers Welfare and Retirement Fund. As administrator of the Memorial Medical Center, Colonel Black will have over-all responsibility for the operation of three smaller, affiliated hospitals in the surrounding area, those at McDowell and Pikeville, Ky., and at Man, W. Va. The more highly specialized facilities and services for the group of four hospitals will be concentrated in the Memorial Medical Center at Williamson.
