The authors are well qualified by education and professional experience to write on the creative nursery center, a unified service to children and parents. They do not offer this book as a complete blueprint of a model nursery center but attempt "to set forth the accepted principles of today with the hope that they may have value in developing the nursery center of tomorrow."
The thesis that the nursery center is the means of narrowing the discrepancy between knowledge of children's needs and the application of that knowledge is one to which many may object. Many observers consider that even the best possible nursery school setup for the child under 4 years of age is a poor, although sometimes necessary, substitute for a mother's care. Unnecessarily robbing of either a young child or his mother of this period cannot be condoned.
