The Common Infectious Diseases: A Handbook for Students and Postgraduates

ABSTRACT

This is a handbook designed primarily for students and postgraduates. The author has clearly outlined his objectives in the preface, and the material presented follows the stated purpose of the publication. It is designed to supplement clinical demonstrations on the infectious diseases which are most commonly encountered in the large city hospital. The book is not intended as a textbook or reference book. It consists of 17 chapters, and the infectious diseases covered are diphtheria; scarlet fever, including septic sore throat; erysipelas and erysipeloid; measles; rubella; whooping cough; mumps; infectious mononucleosis; influenza; chickenpox; vaccinia; smallpox; meningococcic fever; poliomyelitis; typhoid and paratyphoid fever; acute diarrhea in infants, and infective gastroenteritis of infants. The author deals briefly with the history, epidemiology, bacteriology, symptomatology and treatment of each of these diseases. The book is well organized and written in a clear and concise fashion.
