Deep Massage and Manipulation Illustrated

ABSTRACT

This book deals with the technic employed and the results obtained from the penetrating effect of friction massage on deep seated tissues. The technic described is that of deep friction over the site of the lesion, which "may or may not be within the painful area outlined by the patient and may not be at the tender spot that he indicates." The author emphasizes the importance of diagnosis before treatment is begun: "No advantage is gained by giving massage near an inflamed point; if it is to be given at all, it must be applied to the exact spot. Referred pain provides the chief difficulty. Thus it is evident that the source of a pain must be determined before any question of massage can arise at all."

The author's method differs from the one used in this country, where a circular technic is used with the thumb over the lesion;
