ABSTRACT

To the Editor:—  I would like to correct the statement that appeared on page 14, of the Jan. 9, 1954, issue of The Journal and that gave the blood collection figures of the Red Cross for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1953. The Red Cross procured a total of 4,121,250 pints of blood, of which 1,791,650 pints were distributed to civilian hospitals and 2,329,600 for defense. Of the blood collected for defense purposes, 383,852 pints were collected by the cooperating blood banks and 1,945,748 pints were collected by Red Cross centers.
