Pain in the lumbar and sacral regions in women may have either an orthopedic or a gynecologic explanation. The varying emphasis given in the past to one or the other of these alternatives is reviewed in the prefaces and opening pages of this book, and the author makes an effort to give a balanced presentation of both factors. There is a good summary of recommended methods of examination. The book closes with a meager presentation of original data. Since the author has access to a rich source of clinical material, it is hoped that in subsequent editions he will employ statistical helps beyond the simple computation of averages and percentages. The book has an excellent bibliography and is well indexed, beautifully illustrated, and attractively bound.
