ABSTRACT

To the Editor:—  The purpose of this statement is to inform the medical profession at large of the facts concerning refugee physicians in this country and to offer a just and reasonable program to resolve the existing problem to the mutual advantage of the communities in which they are seeking shelter and of the émigrés themselves.Until recently current misconceptions about the facts and a lack of understanding of the nature of the situation have added needless difficulties and complications. The committee hopes that this statement will serve primarily to clarify the facts in order to provide a better spirit of understanding in terms of mutual responsibility.

THE FACTS  During the period from July 1, 1934, to Dec. 1, 1938, corresponding to the time of the National Socialist régime in Germany, 1,528 physicians have migrated to the United States from Greater Germany.The official figures covering this period are the
