ABSTRACT

The author states that this third edition has been revised to include methods and information suggested by the Working Committee on Practical Nurse Training as outlined in the publication "Practical Nursing" (United States Office of Education). Emphasis is placed on the nursing care of the patient, with only brief reference to the household responsibilities commonly associated with the duties of the practical nurse. The statement "There are cases which, due to financial conditions, require housework of the practical nurse in addition to patient care" suggests a changing concept of the function of the practical nurse and appears to indicate that in some respects she is approaching the role of the graduate of a professional school of nursing.
