Cancer Symposium.—
The early diagnosis and treatment of cancer in accessible sites with emphasis on diagnosis by general practitioners will be taken up at the Cancer Symposium September 24 at the Hotel California, San Francisco. The symposium is sponsored by the California Medical Association's Cancer Commission in cooperation with the California Division of the American Cancer Society.

Dr. Herbert M. Evans, director of the Institute of Experimental Biology at the University of California, Berkeley, was lately given the highest award of the Association for the Study of Internal Secretions for "long-continued outstanding research which has notably advanced knowledge in the field of endocrinology, especially as regards the hormones of the anterior hypophysis."—The president of the Italian Republic has conferred on Dr. Jacob C. Geiger, director of public health, city and county of San Francisco, the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity accompanied by the citation for "humanitarian
