Story of Nevada State Medical Society and Nevada Medicine

ABSTRACT

This pamphlet was prepared by one who has practiced medicine in Nevada for many years, having gone to Reno in 1900 before that city was incorporated. While the earliest records of the activities of Nevada physicians have been lost, they concerned for the most part the few doctors who passed through previous to 1850 on their way to the California gold fields. Only seven physicians attended the first meeting, called in 1872 at Pioche. When the Nevada State Medical Society was organized at Virginia City in 1875, it was not feasible to hold yearly meetings because of the small number of physicians. This organization at a meeting in 1894 at Reno elected Dr. Henry Bergsteine as delegate to the annual session of the American Medical Association in San Francisco that year.
