This edition considers the few good anesthetics that are available for local anesthesia, the doses and the methods of their use, the combination of epinephrine with local anesthetics and the combination of local anesthetics and general anesthesia. There is a description of the syringes and needles recommended for this work and various other appliances that are conveniently used for this type of work. The various blocks are described on an anatomic basis, as for example in chapter IV, local anesthesia for operations on the scalp, the cranium and its contents, and in chapter V, local anesthesia for operations on the face, jaw and tongue. In the following chapters local anesthesia is described for operations on the ear and mastoid cells, for trifacial neuralgia and for operations on the fifth cranial nerve, cervical lymph nodes, buccal soft parts, thyroid gland, tonsils, larynx, trachea, mammary gland, thorax, lungs, spinal column and abdomen.
