This monograph includes some original work done by the author on the conduction system of the heart. He reports observations on the anatomic distribution of the conduction system in the beef, sheep and pig heart. He emphasizes the presence of the Purkinje system throughout the myocardium except in the upper parts of the septum around the first portion of the bundle branches and near the auriculoventricular groove. He describes in detail the connections of the bundle branches with the Purkinje system and stresses the presence of a Purkinje network in the lower part of the interventricular septum linking the two ventricles. While these observations have been made before they are not generally known. The author hasconfirmed the presence of an extensive nerve plexus surrounding the conduction system.
