Statistics on Smallpox  M. Camus, director of the Institut supérieur de vaccine at the Paris Academy of Medicine, stated recently, at a session of the academy, in the name of the Commission de la vaccine, that the statistics on smallpox are very poorly kept. There are always disagreements between the necrologic figures supplied by the administration and those furnished by the departmental commissions on vaccination. That is the condition, notwithstanding the fact that the general secretary of the prefecture presides over these commissions. Prof. Léon Bernard remarked, in this connection, that no sanitary statistics were exact, and that was very unfortunate from the standpoint of public health. The Academy of Medicine took note of the conclusions of the Commission de vaccine and requested that official statistics be approved by the departmental commissions.
