ABSTRACT

After having gone through seventeen editions since 1896, the old handbook died, to be immediately resurrected in the form of a joint effort by Halliburton and his successor, McDowall. The new edition is almost a new work built around the skeleton of the old. It contains the newer knowledge of physiology, and yet it has actually been reduced in size by the deletion of some nonessentials. With its revised contents the handbook takes its place among the standard physiology texts suitable for the medical courses in the subject, and it is to be heartily recommended for that purpose.
