The Story of the First Fifty Years of The Mount Sinai Hospital, 1852-1902

ABSTRACT

This book describes and documents in chronologic sequence the story of the formative years of the Mount Sinai Hospital, New York City, from 1852 to 1870, and the subsequent growth and development from 1870 to 1902. A third section is now in preparation and will be published in the Journal of the Mount Sinai Hospital as the material becomes available. It is hoped that these reports will also be supplied in book form to complete the historical record of a period of ninety-two years of distinguished hospital service. The book is an interesting narrative of hospital events so written as to reflect the course of medicine in the latter half of the nineteenth century. It introduces many of the prominent physicians of the early period and describes their work and influence in shaping the medical traditions of Mount Sinai Hospital.
