Effects of Economic Situation on Congresses and Social Insurance  The economic situation naturally is reflected in the medical profession, both as to pure science and as to general financial aspects. Thus, a number of congresses that are usually well attended have had to be canceled. In a previous letter, mention was made of the postponement for one year of the congress of the Gesellschaft für Verdauungs- und Stoffwechselkrankheiten. A number of other societies and leagues have been compelled to follow this example. The meeting of the Verband Deutscher Hochschulen announced for October, in Danzig, will not be held; but in its place a meeting of the house of delegates of the Verband Deutscher Hochschulen will be held in the autumn in a central German city in connection with the conference of the rectors, or presidents, of German universities.
