PYREXIA IN MALIGNANT NEPHROMA (HYPERNEPHROMA)

That fever may occur in the course of malignant disease, and apart from any infectious complication, has long been known. Its existence in malignant nephroma1 of the kidney has apparently been so little emphasized in the past as to justify a brief discussion of it at the present time.

Its occurrence in two cases in a series of seventeen of these tumors at the University Hospital has served to focus our attention on it, particularly since a knowledge of this relationship might have served to clarify the preoperative diagnosis in the first case. In this series of seventeen cases of malignant nephromas, fever was a prominent feature in two, or 11.7 per cent. Elevation of the temperature to above 100 F. was present in three other cases, but was associated with an obvious complication in each instance. Only four cases of mixed tumor of the kidney in infancy occurred
