It was one of the hobbies of Dr. Aldred Scott Warthin to collect all of the books, illustrations and other material that he could find on the "dance of death." His interest began in 1893 when he saw Dürer's famous plate in a window near Nuremberg. Dr. Warthin's interest in death was philosophical and in no sense of the word morbid. His hobby gave him great pleasure, and he delighted to show his collections to visitors. Those who did not see his collections in a personally conducted tour by the author will find in this book reproductions of ninety-one of the illustrations, complete bibliography, and a discussion written in Dr. Warthin's best literary manner.
