ARIZONA 

Increase in Death Rate.  —The U. S. Department of Commerce announces that the death rate for Arizona for 1927 was 1,281 per hundred thousand of population, as compared with 1,252 in 1926. The increase noted is more than accounted for by increases in the rates from measles, automobile accidents, heart disease, cancer, and diarrhea and enteritis under 2 years of age. There were decreases during the year in the rates from influenza, nephritis and tuberculosis. The estimated midyear population of Arizona in 1927 was 459,000 and in 1926, 445,000.
