—Arkansas was admitted to the registration area in 1927. The U. S. Department of Commerce announces that the death rate for the state during that year was 952 per hundred thousand of population. The highest death rates were for heart disease (90 per hundred thousand); tuberculosis (77); nephritis (61); pneumonia (54); malaria and cancer (each 42); pellagra (34); typhoid and paratyphoid (23), and homicide (16). The estimated population of Arkansas for 1927 was 1,923,000.
