ABSTRACT

The author presents this manual in the hope that it will serve as a guide for the general practitioner of medicine and the insurance carrier in the handling of injuries coming within the purview of workmen's compensation laws. He discusses the relationship of the general practitioner to workmen's compensation cases, devoting attention to methods of examination of industrial injuries and their treatment, explores the difficult question of causal relationships between disability and injury, including aggravation of preexisting conditions, and includes a chapter on expert opinion and disability evaluation. The concluding chapters present the relationship of physical therapy to industrial injuries, the use of orthopedic appliances and the part that traumatic neuroses assume in the general picture of this particular field of medical practice. The manual embodies material previously published in the Archives of Physical Therapy, the Medical Record and Industrial Medicine.
