ABSTRACT

POLICIES GOVERNING INITIAL APPOINTMENT OF MEDICAL OFFICERS The Surgeon General of the Army published detailed information concerning policies governing the initial appointment of physicians as medical officers on April 23, 1942. Necessary changes are given wide publicity, at his request, in order that the individual applicants, and all concerned in the procurement of medical officers, may know the status of such appointments.The current military program provides for a definite number of position vacancies in the different grades. The number of such positions must necessarily determine the promotion of officers already on duty and, in addition, the appointment of new officers from civilian life. Such appointments are limited to qualified physicians required to fill the position vacancies for which no equally well qualified medical officers are available.
