Sale of Dinitrophenol Restricted.—
Physicians licensed to practice medicine in California will have sole charge of the distribution of dinitrophenol in the future, in accordance with a resolution adopted by the state department of health, August 20. Since dinitrophenol has already been responsible for a number of deaths, the board forbids any one other than a licensed physician to prescribe, dispense or sell this product.
Gifts for Research.—
Among gifts presented to the University of California recently were $2,500 from C. S. Howard and $800 from other citizens of San Francisco for support of research on poliomyelitis now in progress at the George Williams Hooper Foundation under the direction of Karl F. Meyer, Ph.D. A gift of $5,000 from the Rockefeller Foundation for the study of chemical aspects of vitamins and hormones under Dr. Herbert M. Evans, Berkeley, was also announced.
