To the Editor The study by Dr Kitzman and colleagues documented a beneficial effect of diet and physical training on exercise capacity in obese older patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFPEF).1 The study is among the few reporting encouraging results in this population. We have also observed an improvement in exercise capacity and quality of life by applying functional electrical stimulation of peripheral muscles as an alternative form of exercise in patients with HFPEF.2
