ABSTRACT

Berlin's Need of Radium  Director Dr. Schwéers of the central bureau of health in Berlin, in an address recently, discussed cancer treatment in Germany and in foreign countries. France has 51 Gm. of radium, England 42 Gm., Sweden more than 6 Gm., and Denmark more than 4 Gm. In Paris there is about 10 Gm. and in New York, where the total number of deaths from cancer is not much higher than in Berlin, about 13 Gm. is available. In Germany the organization of cancer control is still in the beginnings. In Cologne the Allgemeine Ortskrankenkasse has established a large irradiation institute, and in Berlin the sick benefit associations have a small supply of radium. For some time the city of Berlin has been working toward the organization of cancer treatment and an aid system for cancer patients.
