Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology  Under the chairmanship of Professor Mangiagalli, rector of the University of Milan, the Società italiana di ostetricia e ginecologia held its twenty-fifth congress in Modena. The meeting was opened with an address by the president of the society, Prof. Guzzoni Degli Ancarani, who gave a brief account of the instruction in obstetrics in Modena. Papers were presented on four main topics:

FIBROMAS AND CANCER OF THE UTERUS  Professor Mangiagalli presented the opening paper on "A Half Century's Experience in the Treatment of Fibromas and Cancer of the Uterus." The first abdominal hysterectomy for fibroma was performed by Mangiagalli in 1878. From that date on, he had performed the operation 1,598 times with variable mortality, but for the last hundred cases it had not exceeded 5 per cent.
