ABSTRACT

The Centennial Celebration in Honor of Laënnec  Laënnec died, Aug. 13, 1826. Two celebrations have recently been held in his honor. The first took place in August, in Brittany, where Laënnec was born and where he lies buried (The Journal, Sept. 18, 1926, p. 954); the second was transferred to Paris, where Laënnec studied medicine and passed his scientific career. During the three-day celebration in Paris, Laënnec was extolled by numerous speakers. The president of the republic and the entire diplomatic corps attended the opening session. Many foreign delegates were present as representatives of their governments or their universities. Dr. Thayer of Baltimore was chosen as a single representative to speak in the name of the foreign delegates. He emphasized that the scientists of all countries owed Laënnec a debt of gratitude.In his address, M. Lapie, rector of the University of Paris, described the first years of study of
