The author uses the phrase "diseases of metabolism" in its widest sense; for example, the question of achlorhydria and hyperchlorhydria are dealt with in the chapter on mineral metabolism. The author shows familiarity with the extensive literature in the field, both scientific and clinical, and important papers are cited as footnotes in the text. The presentation is clear and logical. It is also, on the whole, quite accurate and critical; in fact, as accurate and critical as one may reasonably expect, when the data of this immense field are being presented and evaluated by a single man.
