ABSTRACT

The Fatalities in Lübeck Resulting from B C G Vaccine  A report on the fatalities occurring in Lübeck following the inoculation of infants with the Calmette B C G vaccine was given in a previous letter (The Journal, June 14, p. 1933). In the meantime, a further authoritative article on the subject has appeared in the Klinische Wochenschrift (number 24), by Prof. Ludwig Lange, a member of the bacteriologic department of the federal health bureau. Even with this additional statement, a definitive opinion as to the cause of the fatal infections, which must, without doubt, be regarded as an ingestion tuberculosis, cannot as yet be formed. Prof. Ludwig Lange emphasizes, as did also Prof. Bruno Lange on a previous occasion, that these regrettable events do not constitute a sufficient reason for condemning the B C G vaccine. The warmest sympathy for the victims of the disaster but likewise intelligent consideration
