ABSTRACT

Principles Supporting Expert Medical Opinion on Prospective Marriage  At the municipal marriage consultation bureau, which was established by the city of Vienna about two years ago as a subdepartment of the public health service, about 25 per cent. of the applicants for information and advice may be said to have been in good health, while of those who were sick about 25 per cent, were suffering from syphilis or gonorrhea; 15 per cent, had, or had had, tuberculosis; 20 per cent, were impotent or homosexual. Also women come for advice on birth control. Many persons who, though in good health themselves, have a family history of serious disease back of them ask whether they can conscientiously marry.
