This second and final volume, as in other editions, is an exposition of the diatheses and diseases caused by abnormal nutrition, "avitaminoses"; of diseases of the urinary organs, joints, muscles, blood, glands of internal secretion and the nervous system. The alterations are not numerous. In spite of assurance in the preface that the chapter on diseases of the vegetative nervous system is new, apparently it is identical with that in the twenty-seventh edition. Better illustrations replace some of those formerly used; about sixteen are new, and half as many appearing last year are omitted. Plate I, roentgenographic illustrations of bladder and renal stones, is greatly improved. By reducing some paragraphs of the previous edition (reviewed, Jan. 12, 1929) to fine print and some of the illustrations to a smaller size, this edition has only two more pages than the last.
