ABSTRACT

The fifth edition of this most valuable work is fully up to the standard of previous editions. It is an encyclopedia on diet. The authors explain that the stress of war work prevented the inclusion of any literary references prior to January, 1918. A considerable space is occupied by tabular matter and discussion relative to alcohol and various alcoholic products. Very possibly this may be greatly abbreviated in future issues, since the analysis of thirty or more brands of beer can have but slight interest for those who have no beer at all. The book presents briefly and particularly all of the well known dietary methods; for example, those of Leube, the Karell method, the Sippy diet, the Prochownick diet for pregnancy, and in fact a series of diets for every possible illness, institute or individual. Numerous supplementary tables add to the value of the text.
