ABSTRACT

The letter of Dr. Vaughan was submitted to Colonel Munson who replies:

To the Editor:  —Relative to the letter by Colonel Vaughan, referring to a paper by me on "The Needs of Medical Education as Revealed by the War" based on the abstract of the original paper (The Journal, March 15, 1919, p. 822), it is believed that the paper itself, in full, will probably give the further information desired by him and perhaps others. However, certain points may here be briefly touched on for further clearness.In the first place, the general qualifications of the great majority of medical men entering the service were good. To say that all were good would be untrue. To enumerate merely the good qualities would avoid the requirements of the above mentioned subject, assigned me. The paper does not represent criticism. It is an effort to make a diagnosis of a symptom-complex apparently
