Despite the war and its attendant demands on his time, Darier has been able to revise, and in many sections rewrite, his textbook on dermatology. To shorten the work as much as possible, he has dispensed with the bibliography, case histories, citations and academic discussions, and has limited himself to the essentials in descriptions, diagnosis and treatment of dermatoses. Much space is saved by the elimination of the customary chapters on the histologic and pathologic anatomy of the skin. The first part of the book classifies and discusses the dermatoses from the point of view of the fundamental pathologic process involved. In other words, the classification is made according to the essential lesions. The author admits that such a classification is open to many criticisms, but is of the opinion that it has advantages in the presentation of the subject to the beginner which far outweigh the disadvantages.
