The following case is reported on account of the unusually large circumscribed development of inflammatory tissue, resembling a new growth. Although such a formation has been seen in chronic inflammation of the Fallopian tube, in the appendix it has not been reported to my knowledge.
History.—
Miss D., aged 47, was admitted to the surgical service of Dr. Henry Roth at Lebanon Hospital June 2, 1907. About one year before admission to the hospital she had an attack of acute appendicitis. Soon after this attack subsided she noticed a mass in the right lower quadrant of her abdomen. This gradually increased in size. She lost 20 pounds in weight in one year. Examination revealed a tumor occupying the entire lower right quadrant of the abdomen, extending up to the level of the umbilicus and about one or two inches beyond the median line.
