This book represents, according to the authors, the knowledge found actually necessary to acquire and use in their work in tropical medicine. A mere glance at the volume of 1,200 pages shows the wide scope taken by tropical medicine at the present day. This department of medical science may be said to be based on the agency of animals in the conveyance of disease, and consequently a very large section of the work, covering nearly 400 pages, is devoted to a description of the biologic causes of disease, including animal parasites and disease-carriers and a short chapter on the vegetable parasites, omitting bacteria, which are sufficiently described in other text-books. The animal parasites and carriers are arranged according to their zoologic order, and a very complete description is given.
