If you are a resident or fellow physician and a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), you have a great opportunity to influence AMA policy and help implement initiatives for residents by serving on the Resident and Fellow Section (RFS) Governing Council. At our Annual Meeting, June 17 through 19, 1999, in Chicago, Ill, we will elect the RFS Governing Council for 1999-2000. In addition to working on issues of concern to residents and fellows, serving on the RFS Governing Council offers the opportunity for professional growth and can be fun to do.

Governing Council members are required to attend the AMA Annual and Interim Meeting (at least 4 days each), 4 Governing Council meetings (2 weekend days each), and to represent the RFS at various other meetings. The additional responsibilities of each position are listed below.

If you are interested in any of these positions, please do the following: (1) contact the undersigned or another member of the current RFS Governing Council to discuss your interest in the position (you may reach us through the AMA Department of Resident and Fellow Services [DRPS]); (2) obtain a copy of "Tips on Running a Successful Campaign" from the DRPS; (3) contact your state and specialty society to ask them for assistance with your campaign; and (4) register for the Annual Meeting and submit your application form, statement of interest, and a curriculum vitae to the DRPS by April 30.
